There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
