Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
